The Eiffel Tower in Paris
Built by Gustave Eiffel and his partners for the Universal Exposition of 1889, the Eiffel Tower – originally 300 meters high, now 324 meters – is situated at the edge of the Champ de Mars, just next to the Seine. With its 7 million visitors each year, the Eiffel Tower is one of the most visited sites around the world and one of the most characteristic symbols of Paris and France.
Nowadays, this tower is used as transmitter for many television and radio programs.
It is open to visitors on several levels. Different spaces allow visitors to stroll and to discover the history of this out-of-the-common building. The shops situated on the tower suggest a large panel of souvenirs and cultural objects about the Eiffel Tower and Paris. Several “buffets”, splat on the esplanade and on the 1st and 2nd floors, are here if you are hungry or looking for sweet treats.
Two restaurants “58 Tour Eiffel” and “Le Jules Verne” situated on the 1st and 2nd floor offer quality food in an elegant environment with a panoramic view on the capital.
Since December 31st 1999, the Eiffel Tower lightens up every night from sunset to 1 a.m. – 2 a. m. during summer. I addition to its revolving light, a sparkling occurs the five first minutes of each hour and is realized with more than 20.000 sparkling bulbs on its four faces. “La Dame de fer” is thus more beautiful than ever!
